2024-25

10B English

Date Due

June 12, 2025

Additional Info
Please use your homework sessions (and any other time you can and want to spare) to work on the final draft of your Macbeth coursework.

The submission deadline is Thursday 12th June, 4pm, by email to englishdepartment@guildfordhigh.co.uk. In addition, you will submit an identical hard copy in the lesson on Friday 13th June.

Save your file name as Conway_Macbeth_JSmith and mimic this in the subject line of the email when you submit your work.

Top tips - ask yourself these questions:
  • Does your topic sentence clearly related to the question (express a response to the 'how far' aspect of the question)?
  • Do your quotations make a logical link to the question and your analysis supports this?
  • Have you embedded your quotations in a way that makes grammatical sense?
  • Have you zoomed at least once explicitly with a technique or specific word type? (Ideally you will have 2 or 3 zooms on most quotations to provide a more sustained analysis.)
  • Have you included at least three pieces of dramatic terminology in your essay (see the OneNote page to guide you on terms and meanings)?
  • Have you explored the effect of the literary or dramatic technique in this quotation?
  • Have you commented on the audience's response at least once every paragraph?
  • Have you commented on Shakespeare's intention with this presentation of Lady Macbeth's character in every paragraph?
  • Have you included at least one piece of social/historical/political context in every paragraph (including the introduction and conclusion)?
  • In your main body paragraphs, is your context explicitly linked to that specific moment in the play ('This reflects...')? Have you provided depth and detail about your context?
  • Does your conclusion make a judgement on the question ('How far...')?
  • Does your conclusion state your overall interpretation of Shakespeare's intentions with Lady Macbeth's character in the whole play?
  • Have you evaluated how a Jacobean audience might respond differently to Lady Macbeth compared to a modern audience (and why)?
